Juicy and sweet, the Candy Crisp® apple lives up to its name. It is shaped like a Red Delicious apple with the top wider than the bottom and knobs on its flooring and has golden skin with a pink blush. This apple tree is vigorous, upright, and a heavy bearer. Fruit crops will keep up to four months in proper storage. Fruit texture is firm and juicy! Some have described the Candy Crisp® apple as having pear taste and scent and lacking in apple flavor. The Candy Crisp® apple was discovered by chance in a New York apple orchard among red delicious apple trees. For this reason the red delicious apple is thought to be a parent of the Candy Crisp® apple. The Candy Crisp® apple tree is disease resistant and can withstand the cold, although it needs full sun to produce fruit. It is hardy in USDA Zones 4-7.
